We will also no longer publish a NNDR Credits spreadsheet.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWhile we do hold this information, the release of credit information combined with releasing details of liable names (which could differ from the public facing name) increases the risk of fraud by making it easier to identify accounts to target and provides the information necessary to start the refund request.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe exemption we are relying on is Section 31(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.\u00a0This exemption is a qualified exemption, which means that we must consider whether or not the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in withholding the information. In this case, we consider that the public interest favours withholding the information.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u00a0\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cu\u003EWe have assessed the public interest in favour of disclosure as below:\u003C\/u\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2022 There is an inherent public interest within the Freedom of Information Act in disclosure as it promotes better governance through transparency and accountability.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2022 There is a public interest in disclosing information that holds local authorities to account and increases transparency about how they perform their functions.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2022 The public should have confidence and trust in the local authority\u2019s ability to perform their statutory functions\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u00a0\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cu\u003EWe have assessed the following factors in withholding the information:\u003C\/u\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2022 It is not in the public interest to disclose information, in this case account numbers, liable names and credit information, which could be used to compromise\u00a0the council\u0027s\u00a0essential security checks\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2022\u00a0The local authority has the responsibility of collecting NNDR monies securely and efficiently.
