This dataset has been created to provide a more accessible and recognisable place name for each LSOA.
Cambridgeshire has 395 LSOAs, each of which has a LSOA code and a LSOA name. However, these names and codes do not correspond to any place and are simply a reference identifier. Instead they have standard ONS codes (e.g. ‘E02006827’) and schematic names relating to the local authorities where they are located (e.g. ‘Cambridge 004’).
The names in this dataset have been designed and consulted on locally and correspond to actual local places within each LSOA. The aim is to make it easier to describe data that has been produced at an LSOA level.
The names aren't intended to supplant any names that might already be used locally and they aren't ‘official’ names for LSOAs. Rather, they are intended to provide those using LSOA data with a resource to make that data easier to interpret and present.
